PSEB Class XII Results

PSEB Class XII Results: To avoid ‘confusion’, 2 merit lists this year

Learning from last year’s ‘mistake’ when students and parents protested over a combined merit list that was issued for those ‘with sports’ and ‘without sports’ for Class XII, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) will issue two merit lists this year.
The Class XII PSEB result will be announced Friday. Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, chairman, PSEB, said, “The policy to give additional marks was started following notification of the state government last year after directions from the centre to promote sports. Last year, after the Class XII merit list was issued, we got negative feedback from many quarters, ranging from academicians to parents on ‘injustice’ to students without sports. It is a learning process and now two merit lists – of sports and non-sports – would be announced for both Class X and XII.”
Last year, while the Class XII merit list remained same (announced May 11), the PSEB was quick to rectify and separate lists were issued for Class X on May 26 last.
The sources from Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) confirmed to The Indian Express that the decision came following criticism and opposition from all corners ranging from academicians and parents who said that ‘injustice’ is being done by combining merit list of students scoring high without sports and those scoring with additional marks of sports quota.
In 2014-15, when PSEB had announced common list of toppers for Class XII, two girls from sports quota bagging 100 per cent marks in non-medical stream held the first rank in the state. The only commerce topper in state with 98.67 per cent marks from Ludhiana was pushed to sixth rank as she had no sport. Her father told media that “her daughter scored more than toppers in academics and was pushed to sixth rank without any reason”.
However, parents last year had ridiculed the decision of PSEB to not change Class XII merit list. Parents had said “as students have to take admission in colleges, Class XII list holds more significance than Class X”.
State-level players will get 15 additional marks while those at national/international level get 25 extra marks.
